Open Letter to UN Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki Moon - August 8th 2013

Today Roya Klingner, head and founder of the Global Center for Gifted and Talented Children, wrote an open letter to the United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki Moon, to request his support in establishing an International Day of Gifted and Talented Children.

Here is the text of the letter:

Dear Mr. Secretary-General,

I am writing this to you in the name of the Gifted and Talented Children of the world to request your support in establishing an International Day for Gifted and Talented Children every year on August 10th.

Gifted and Talented Children are children who are different from average children. They are not better or worse, just different. They are fast thinkers, creative, highly aware of justice and injustice, very observant, extremely curious, with excellent memory, and great problem solving skills. Some of them you already met, like Malala Yousafzai, Felix Finkbeiner, and others.

Children like these are very important for our future and our world. They are the scientists, problem solvers, and peace makers of our future. They can change the world to a better place. However they are often left behind in our educations system worldwide, because they have special needs. I do not want to talk about all the problems these children face, but I want to make the world more aware of them.

To reach this goal I would like to ask your support in establishing an International Day for Gifted and Talented Children every year on August 10th to raise a global awareness for them, to value their Gifts and Talents, and to celebrate their existence in our society.

Kind Regards,

Roya Klingner

Head and Founder of the Global Center for Gifted and Talented Children
